what we do

Naturopathic medicine follows a number of key principles

The healing power of nature:

The body has an inherent ability to maintain and restore health. Naturopathic practitioners facilitate this healing process by removing obstacles that allow the body to heal itself and identifying remedies to enhance healing.

Identify and address the cause:

Naturopathic practitioners address the underlying causes of illness rather than just the symptoms of disease. Symptoms are an external manifestation of an internal imbalance due to any combination of physical, mental, or emotional causes. Symptom management may be important, but it is more important not to disregard the underlying cause of disease.

First do no harm:

A naturopathic remedy plan uses therapies that are gentle, non-invasive, effective, and do not have adverse side effects. A conscious effort is made to use methods that do not suppress symptoms.

Prevention:

It is far easier and cheaper to prevent a disease than to reverse a disease. Naturopathic practitioners evaluate both subjective and objective information necessary to uncover potential susceptibilities to future disease states in their clients. They can discuss specific lifestyle strategies or nutritional supplementation as a means for disease prevention.

Doctor as teacher:

The Latin root of doctor is docere, which means “to teach.” The primary role of naturopathic practitioners is educating, empowering, and motivating clients to assume more personal responsibility for their health by adopting a healthy attitude, lifestyle, and diet. Thomas Edison once said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest clients in the maintenance of the human frame, in diet, and in the prevention of disease.” It is more effective to teach than treat clients.

Address the whole person:

Naturopathic practitioners identify specific weaknesses or dysfunctions in their clients and tailor program based upon the client's individual presentation. It is the client that is in need of remedy, not the disease state or symptom. Naturopathic practitioners are interested in finding and addressing characteristic symptoms that define the client rather than common symptoms that define the disease. William Osler, MD, once said, "It is more important to know what sort of patient has a disease rather than what sort of disease a patient has."

Nutritional Services

Malnutrition - Unhealthy eating habits and inactivity affect quality of life and cause disease and disabilities

Few recognize that unhealthy diet is a leading cause of disease, obesity and disability.

Heart Disease

remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., accounting for almost 1 in every 4 deaths, and affecting significantly more men than women. Heart attack or stroke can result in difficulty with everyday activities—such as walking, bathing, or getting into or out of bed—or cognitive impairment.

Diabetes

is a leading cause of blindness and amputations and ranks 7 in cause of deaths in the U.S. Roughly 73,000 people have lower-limb amputations each year due to diabetes.

Osteoporosis

is the primary cause of bone injuries and are most likely to occur in the hips, spine, and wrist. Even just a slight fracture in these areas can result in loss of independence. Twenty percent of seniors who break their hip die within just one year. Those who survive often require long-term (nursing home) care.

Cancer

is the second leading cause of death in the U.S. A substantial proportion of cancers are preventable, and all cancers caused by cigarette smoking and heavy use of alcohol could be prevented. In 2018, an estimated 1,735,350 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 609,640 people will die from the disease. The most common cancers (listed in descending order according to estimated new cases in 2018) are breast cancer, lung and bronchus cancer, prostate cancer, colon and rectum cancer, melanoma of the skin, bladder cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, kidney and renal pelvis cancer, endometrial cancer, leukemia, pancreatic cancer, thyroid cancer, and liver cancer.

What is Homepathy?

The word homeopathy is derived from the Greek words “homoios” meaning similar and “pathos” meaning suffering. An example of taking a similar is to take an alcoholic drink to cure a hangover. Simply, homeopathic treatment is to select a remedy that has the most similar symptoms to the illness presented. A good homeopathic example of treating with a similar is to use onion (Allium Cepa) in its homeopathic form to treat burning, itching and watery eyes.
